What is Human Trafficking

Human Trafficking is all acts involved in the recruitment, abduction, transport, harboring, transfer, sale or receipt of persons, within national or across international borders, through force, coercion, fraud or deception, to place persons in situations of slavery or slavery-like conditions, forced labor or services, such as forced prostitution or bonded sweatshop labor, or other debt bondage.

Warning Signs of a Sex Trafficking Vicitm

  • Burn Marks, bruises, or cuts
  • Unexplained absences from class
  • Less appropriately dressed than before
  • Sexualized behavior
  • Overly tired in class
  • Withdrawn, depressed distracted or checked out
  • Brags about making or having lots of money
  • Displays expensive clothes, accessories, or shoes
  • New tattoo or "brand" of initials, pimps name or a saying
  • Carries multiple cell phones
  • Older boyfriend or new friends with a different lifestyle
  • Talks about wild parties or invites other students to attend 
  • Shows signs of gang affiliation


Warning Signs of a Pimp or Sex Trafficker

  • Fancy car, clothes and/or jewelry
  • Frequently spends nights away or out of town
  • No actual job that one could visit
  • Trafficker will encourage the victim to become part of the trafficker's dream, putting the victim's dreams and goals on hold
  • Everything becomes "we" in the conversation
  • Secludes and isolates the victim from family and  friends
  • Attempting to fast track the relationship (moving or talking of marriage within a short time frame)
  • Gets to know the victim's dreams, goals, and fears, and uses them against the victim
  • Carries multiple cell phones
